Inmigración De Eeuu Indemniza A Residentes En Nj

Informes De Estado A Estado: Los Beneficios Económicos De Enmendar Nuestro Sistema De Inmigración Que No Funciona

Inmigracion Y Ciudadania En Estados Unidos : Su Guia Completa / Immigration And Citizenship In The US : Your Complete Guide

Immigration law hurts economy, lacks fairness

The Senate approved a comprehensive bill, which includes a 13-year path to citizenship for most of the nation's 11 million unauthorized immigrants. But House Republican leaders have said they will not hold a vote on that legislation; rather, they have pursued a series of smaller-scale bills focused on border control and temporary work visas. Lawmakers face a tight timeframe to potentially consider immigration bills, with deliberations on Syria, the budget and the debt ceiling taking up most of the late summer and fall. Advocates have said they hope the House GOP will devote time to immigration in October, but some lawmakers have said the issue could be put off until next year. "October is a very, very critical month, which is the reason we made this decision to keep the pressure on," said Gustavo Torres, president of Casa de Maryland. Los Tigres del Norte, which was formed in the late 1960s, has achieved popularity and success while singing about topics such as illegal immigration and the drug trade on the U.S.-Mexico border. Organizers said the group's popularity will draw people to the concert who might not normally take part in a political rally, extending the reach of the pro-immigration movement. Other musical groups also expected to be added to the schedule. Jaime Contreras, a vice president at the Service Employees International Union, said: "A handful of extremists in the House of Representatives wants to stop anything progressive, anything that means something to working people, including a path to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants.

Immigration probes Helen Liu marriage

Age gap: Ms Liu with David Shultz. "But apparently, Republican leaders didnt read the part that says they have to actually 'embrace and champion comprehensive immigration reform,' not just smile for the camera." On Monday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in the daily briefing that passing an immigration reform bill this year remains on President Barack Obamas radar. Many on different sides of the immigration debate have become increasingly doubtful that a bill that would both tighten security at the borders and provide a pathway to legal status for many of the countrys estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants could still pass, especially now that Syria has commanded so much attention. Our absolute focus on getting immigration reform passed by both houses and signed into law has not changed at all, Carney said, according to published reports. The Senate passed a bipartisan-crafted comprehensive immigration reform bill in June, but work on immigration legislation has stalled in the House, where many Republicans object to giving undocumented immigrants a chance to legalize. Some Democrats believe Republicans may be trying to let immigration reform die through inaction. Sen. Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat who was a member of the bipartisan Gang of Eight in the Senate that drafted that chambers bill, expressed optimism. Many traditionally conservative groups including the Catholic church, Evangelicals, business leaders and the Chamber of Commerce, high-tech and agriculture growers have worked very hard over August and during recent weeks, and a significant number of Republicans who had previously been negative or neutral have come out for immigration reform, he said, according to The Hill.

Within the Coalition, Mr Cable has pushed for a more relaxed approach to immigration rules, arguing that allowing more foreign workers into the UK would boost the economy. His arguments have been resisted by Conservative ministers ,who have promised to reduce net migration to the UK to tens of thousands. Related Articles Cheer up elderly and ease pressure on NHS, says Norman Lamb 17 Sep 2013 Opinion polls suggest that many voters regard immigration as one of the most pressing issues facing Britain today, and want fewer foreign workers to enter the UK. Mr Cables apparent criticism of voters are his most outspoken yet over immigration. He has previously described it as a toxic issue but stopped short of criticising voters views on the subject. Speaking to Lib Dem activists, he also attacked Tory proposals to charge immigrants for using the NHS and accused his Conservative colleagues of wanting to have no foreign students at UK universities. Conservative ministers earlier this year announced controversial plans to crack down on health tourism by making foreigners pay a 200 levy for NHS care. Under the plans, foreigners from outside the European Union applying for visas lasting more than six months will have to pay the new health care levy. They are currently entitled to free treatment. Mr Cable criticised the plans and warned that it would mean imposing a significant additional cost on foreigners who do not use the NHS. The Government has also announced plans to toughen up visa restriction for foreign students.

Bay Area women leaders, undocumented immigrants, and LGBT activists -- who have taken positions at the forefront of immigration reform protests -- said at a recent strategy meeting that they were turning their attention to state and local bills to push for the rights of their communities. "The movement is not the people in D.C. behind closed doors making decisions -- it's us, it's the sisters getting arrested," said De Guzman, referring to more than 100 women who were arrested Thursday outside the House of Representatives to protest the House's inaction on comprehensive immigration reform. In July, Alex Aldana of the East Bay Immigrant Youth Coalition helped stage a sit-in by undocumented immigrants at Gov. Jerry Brown's office to demand that he sign the TRUST Act, a bill that would limit who state and local authorities can hold for deportation at the request of immigration agents. "Undocuqueer are putting their identity at risk to create social change," explained Aldana, who came to the United States from Guadalajara, Mexico when he was 16 and identifies as both queer and undocumented.

Immigration reopens case on Labor donor

Helen Liu and former husband David Schultz. Current immigration policies essentially ignore this simple reality of modern business. H-1B visas for high-skill employees are not allocated in sufficient numbers to meet the labor force demands of U.S. companies. In addition, foreign-born entrepreneurs who are very prominently involved in high-tech start-ups also face insufficient visa availability. Immigrants have always been a major entrepreneurial force in the U.S. economy; they are even more important today, when advances in technology are opening up more opportunities for new businesses than ever before. It is hard to find someone in the Wisconsin bioscience industry who does not support immigration reform. It is frustrating to watch competent graduates of Wisconsin schools be turned down for visas while jobs go unfilled and business opportunities go untried. Foreign-born high-skilled workers do not take jobs away from Americans. It makes no sense to turn them away when their work here could trigger the creation of more employment opportunities for workers in a wide variety of directly and indirectly connected industries. Of course, the expansion of visa allocations is not the only strategy that comprehensive immigration reform should embrace. It is essential that we implement a rational method of dealing with the 11 million undocumented workers who now live in the U.S.

Vince Cable attacks Britain's 'toxic' views on immigration

Vince Cable admitted even Liberal Democrat voters had Of course, the U.S. visa system for entrepreneurs is hardly the only area where our immigration system falls short of rationality and even morality. Matters of life and liberty are decided in our system of immigration justice without the most basic protections that we expect in American courts. Immigrants have no right to appointed legal counsel. In fact, children, the mentally incompetent and the disabled in our immigration system are not guaranteed access to a lawyer. As a result, a 6-year-old can be brought before a judge, asked legal questions and face deportation to a possibly dangerous country, all without a lawyer or a guardian present. Half of those in immigration proceedings lack legal counsel, despite the efforts of many lawyers to provide free legal advice. A significantly higher percentage of detainees do not have a lawyer, despite programs to connect them with pro bono counsel. There are simply too many individuals in immigration proceedings the Department of Homeland Securitys Immigration and Customs Enforcement annually detains more than 400,000 foreign nationals to meet the need with volunteers.

Sacramento, Not Washington, Sets Pace for Immigration Reform

In June, the Democrat-led Senate approved a bill that sets a path to citizenship for some 11 million unauthorized immigrants while boosting border security. But in the House, Republicans in control criticize the bill as costly and ineffective. Sarah Trumble, legislative counsel for the center-left think tank Third Way in Washington, said Syria may have sidelined immigration reform, "but that's not actually, necessarily a bad thing." Trumble said the delay has bought time for some Republicans who may support reform but are worried about re-election. Filing deadlines for potential challengers to enter primaries are fast approaching, and "for the Republicans, if they know that they're not going to have a challenge on the right, it'll make it a lot easier for them to support reform," Trumble said. But Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies, said that activists shouldn't get their hopes up that immigration reform will pass this year. "I'm not sure how likely it was even before Syria came up," Krikorian said. Krikorian, who favors tighter restrictions on immigration, said Congress also has to deal with the federal budget and debt ceiling. He added the immigration effort is not helped by President Obama, who Krikorian maintains has lost political capital in his handling of the Syrian crisis. But activists say they are confident that their work through the August recess will pay off. Reyes said activists have helped organize town-hall style meetings on immigration, and called up their legislators, even as the debate over Syria heated up.

With Immigration Stalled In Congress, Advocates Look To Obama To Further Reduce Deportations

Syria won't make GOP's immigration problem go "poof" and disappear

abogado de inmigracion illegally without any action by Congress. The memo listed a number of pros arguing for that approach. A bold administrative program would transform the political landscape by using administrative measures to sidestep the current state of congressional gridlock and inertia, it said. However, it noted even more cons. Opponents of the registration program will characterize it as amnesty, and the Homeland Security secretary would face criticism that she is abdicating her charge to enforce the immigration laws. An administration official, who was not authorized to discuss the memo publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, said it was not directed by the White House and has no bearing on the current immigration debate. Thats not stopping immigrant advocates from gaming out scenarios the administration could pursue, such as granting legal status to targeted groups of immigrants, perhaps to people who have been in the country for a long time or whose children are U.S. citizens. Its very clear that from advocates perspective, if legislation fails, we definitely will need to start pressuring the administration to act, said Marielena Hincapie, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center. Immigrants lacking papers work legally — as their own bosses

Hallway chat led to rescue of driver But organizers who help immigrants said the idea has taken on new life in recent years, often among tech-savvy young people who came into the country illegally or overstayed visas. Chavarria, who was 7 when she crossed into Arizona from Mexico with her mother, said her parents told her from a young age that anything was possible in her newly adopted country. "We're taught as young kids that this is the land of opportunity," she said. "They told me, 'You could be anything you want to be if you work hard, you're a good person, obey your parents and go to school.'" But when she graduated from high school in Phoenix, Chavarria discovered that her lack of legal status was a roadblock to becoming a graphic designer. Although she won a scholarship, she said, she could afford to take only two classes at a time at Scottsdale Community College because she wasn't willing to risk working with fraudulent documents to pay for school. Congress delivered another blow to Chavarria in 2010 when it failed to pass the Dream Act , which would provide a path to legalization for young adults who were brought into the country illegally as children. The next year, after she became more involved with the Dream Act Coalition, she discovered a way she could sell her designs to others without fear of repercussions. How is this possible? Though the issue is complex, the answer boils down to how labor law defines employees, said Muzaffar Chishti, an expert on the intersection of labor and immigration law at the Migration Policy Institute. For example, employees often have set hours and use equipment provided by the employer. Independent contractors make their own hours, get paid per project by submitting invoices and use their own tools. Also, someone who hires an independent contractor isn't obligated by immigration law to verify that person's legal status.

Sandy K. Baruah: Immigration reform would help Detroit turn things around

That inadequate limit has been in place for more than 20 years, even though immigrant workers with degrees or special training in STEM and computer science are a prime source of talent for U.S. companies. This is why the Detroit Regional Chamber is supporting an immigration reform bill now in the U.S. House known as the SKILLS Visa Act. Until Americas schools start producing more tech-savvy graduates, Michigan wont get highly skilled immigrants without an expanded supply of skilled-worker visas, and that need is echoed in tech centers across the country. The expansion of visas proposed in the SKILLS Visa Act would meet that need. The bill also would encourage creation of a national STEM and computer science education fund. The money, financed through employer application fees for visas and green card residency permits, would be available to every state to improve teaching in tech-related subjects in K-12, junior colleges and universities. Passing the SKILLS Visa Act would be an investment in Michigan and Detroits future, and position our country to regain its rapidly eroding talent advantage.

Reagan said its time to hammer out these differences. These are topics that have a lot of passions and politics on all sides, he said. We need people not to ignore that but to work through it and find solutions. And when immigration reform happens, or even if it doesnt, lots of people in St. Louis are trying to find ways to draw more immigrants here. Thats the point of the St. Louis Mosaic Project, which launched in earnest in June with backing from local economic development groups and big companies. It aims to make St. Louis the nations fastest-growing metro area for immigration.

A dream derailed for former poster child for immigration reform

Gomez doesn't speak Portuguese. He misses the conveniences of Miami and New York City, and being able to watch the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees on TV. He tries not to think about the United States, the country he calls home. Even visiting would be a challenge. Noncitizens who overstay their visas can be barred from returning for a decade. Still, Gomez doesn't regret the decision to leave. "If I didn't make this move, I'd still be in New York not working," he said. "I had no path in the United States." If there is a silver lining, it came last week in the form of a visit from his parents. It was the first time he had seen them since 2007. The family spent Sunday afternoon in a public park, wandering the grounds and making up for lost time.

Advocates turn to Obama for action on immigration

Ramos message above is that if Republicans try to use Syria as an excuse for inaction, Latinos will see right through that, too. The debate in Washington right now is heavily focused on whether Obamas handling of Syria in particular, Congress apparent rejection of his request for authorization has badly weakened his ability to realize the rest of his agenda. Immigration reform, of course, is a major item on that agenda. But when it comes to immigration as with this falls fiscal fights that question is largely irrelevant. Obamas standing or strength with regard to Congress wont play any significant role in determining whether immigration reform happens. That, too, is a question that turns only on whether Republicans resolve their differences over it.

Show Me Blinds & Shutters "I think that's actually what Obama wants to do. I think he wants Congress not to pass something so he can do it on his own and he can take credit for it," Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, said in an interview. "He needs to be very careful, though, because he continues to flout the law, and he continues to do things that are beyond his authority. And at some point, Congress is going to have enough." The administration acted on its own a year ago to change policy and suspend deportations of some immigrants brought illegally into the country as children. More than 450,000 of them have benefited so far. White House officials refuse to publicly entertain any discussion of taking further steps. "The only way to bring 11 million undocumented individuals out of the shadow economy is for Congress to pass common-sense reform with an earned path to citizenship.

Immigration May Turn Other Red States Blue

Thats what Republican members of Congress concerned about their own partys future probably should remember as they decide whether or not to allow a House floor vote on the immigration bill passed by the Senate in June. For California was once a pretty red state in presidential politics. Before 1994, Republicans carried this state in nine of 12 post-World War II national elections. But the GOP has not won here since, and the only top-of-ticket statewide victories by a Republican in that time were those of Arnold Schwarzenegger, whose movie stardom and centrist politics won him many non-GOP votes. No one has the slightest doubt what caused this shift: the 1994 Proposition 187 and then-Gov. Pete Wilsons vocal support for it. Within four years of that anti-illegal immigrant measures passage, more than 2.5 million California Latinos applied for citizenship and registered to vote, the vast majority as Democrats.

Mexico's Reforms Are Key To Us Immigration Reform

Immigration Debate: What's More Important, Border Security Or Protecting Immigrant Workers?

Mexicos Congress has already passed several key reforms, breaking entrenched powers in public education, broadcasting, and telecommunications while removing legal immunity for officials for criminal prosecution. Mr. Pena Nieto calls these steps transformational and wisely set a deadline to finish them by the end of the year. They are aimed at raising economic growth to 6 percent from the current 1 to 2 percent while increasing revenue to build a strong social safety net. RELATED: Mexico as model for US political reform? Poor growth has been the main driver of poor Mexicans to the US despite the strong patriotism among Mexicans. The reforms are designed to buttress that love of country so more Mexicans dont flee or join a criminal drug gang. What helps account for this surprising political momentum that emerged 12 years after full democracy was restored in Mexico? Unlike in Washington, top elected leaders have formed bonds of trust for the sake of the country.

House Immigration Reform Measure Pushed By Group Of Republicans

"The price of doing nothing is not always nothing," Medina said. "We will be marching to the polls with a report card in hand and a message: If they want us to vote for them, they have to vote for us first." Boehner has complicated matters by promising to consider only legislation that is supported by a majority of his GOP conference. That high hurdle means it is possible that no bills will come to the floor. Even a relatively popular bipartisan measure to beef up border security from Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) could run into resistance. Some Republicans have vowed to block any immigration bill in the House. At the same time, the ability of the unusually broad coalition of advocates to outnumber the scant opposition this summer shows how much attitudes have changed. The last attempt to overhaul immigration laws, in 2007, withered in the face of an intense backlash. But advocates have prepared for the long haul. "I think it looks better than any time I've seen it for a while," said Alex Nowrasteh, an immigration policy analyst at the free-market Cato Institute. At a recent town hall meeting in a fire station in Greer, S.C., Rep.

GOP Congressman: Immigration Reform Faces Narrowing Window in 2013

totaled $857 billion. Builder Jacobs Engineering reported nearly $11 billion in revenue in 2012 and is poised for strong growth in 2013. Construction and maintenance giant Fluor Corporation reported revenues of $27.6 billion in 2012. Meat producer Tyson Foods reported $33 billion in revenue in fiscal 2012. In the U.S. major businesses have a stake in promoting immigration reform as an economic priority. Doug Oberhelman, Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar, Inc, an Illinois based company that earned $65.9 billion in revenues in 2012, has emerged as a pro-reform advocate.Providing consistent, reliable access to both high-skilled and low-skilled talent is critical to sustain our nations global competitiveness in many industries including healthcare, technology, manufacturing, hospitality, and tourism. We need reform that will provide opportunities for immigrants and foreign students to enter the U.S. and our workforce legally, attracting and keeping the best, the abogado de inmigracion brightest, and the hard working, he announced during a recent public event.

Immigration bill backers keep pressure on Congress during recess

Sergio Garcia will practice law, and he will make a killing I think the Syrian situation could seriously affect immigration. There is not much time left in this legislative session, and dealing with what could become another war could take longer than expected. Lack of time could become an excuse for not tackling immigration reform. Call it what you will, but an armed conflict is about to begin even if limited by the Senate to 60 days with an option for an additional 30 days, at least for now. Without a doubt it provides a perfect excuse to leave the discussion on immigration reform for some other time. Timing is not ideal for us, said Valeria Treves, the executive director of New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), a pro-immigration group in Jackson Heights, Queens. As an advocate I think the Syria situation makes it more difficult for us. Its going to be harder to catch media attention and legislators ears. Immigration could take a back seat because legislators can say they are busy with Syria.

Raul Labrador Says Immigration Reform Timeframe Is Now 'A Lot Shorter'

But he has worked on the issue -- formerly as a member of a bipartisan group drafting a comprehensive bill -- and he is plugged into internal party politics on immigration. But, as Labrador said, political and policy disagreements are not the only thing holding immigration reform back. The calendar is too. The House only has 39 more scheduled legislative days left this year. And the aforementioned debates over Syria and fiscal issues could eat up a bunch of that time. Labrador believes if immigration reform does not pass in 2013, its even less likely to do so next year because of the looming mid-term elections.

There's also a real danger that some members of the House, who have been reluctant to take up the issue, would be happy if immigration reform fell off of the calendar. The nation can't afford for that to happen. The crisis in Syria is a new and critical issue, but many of the other issues clogging the House's calendar are challenges of the chamber's own making. If the House had been willing to compromise with the Senate, it could have passed a food stamp bill early this summer. Battles over the budget and the debt ceiling don't need to consume the legislative calendar for months unless House members can't resist the opportunity for senseless grandstanding, infighting, and uncooperative behavior - and recent history shows that they haven't been willing to resist the opportunity to do just that. As for the immigration issue, the Senate passed a bipartisan bill that gives undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship all the way back in June. If the House had been willing to do something similar, a reform plan could have been on the president's desk right now. Instead, the House wasted valuable time talking about a "piecemeal" approach to immigration and wringing its hands over worries about voter outrage that has failed to materialize. Meanwhile, the millions of undocumented immigrants who are working, paying taxes and raising their families are still waiting for a chance to come out of the shadows. Comprehensive immigration reform isn't just a matter of doing the right thing morally - it's the right thing economically, too, which is why so many business groups have lined up behind the bill. It would even be good for that deficit that House members claim to care so much about - a report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation said the Senate bill will reduce the deficit by $158 billion over the next decade.

Immigration reform risks slipping to back burner

Only 24 of 233 Republicans represent districts where more than one-quarter of their constituents are Hispanic. Even so, some in the Republican Party argue that its future hinges on whether the House finds a way to embrace an immigration overhaul. That's a crucial issue for the country's fast-growing bloc of Hispanic voters.
